Where has Mama gone? Who is the mysterious figure that keeps popping up from time to time? These are some of the questions that LIL Miz whispers to her doll, Company, as she surveys a cluster of dead leaves dancing to the tunes of the October winds. Her birthday is less than 48 hours away, and there's something uncanny about the number 13, they say. Her aunty Karma is concocting her own little surprise party for Miz, something unforgivable and unforgettable is brewing. Things take a sharp turn when they become witnesses to the traffic-stop assassinations of a pregnant woman and her boyfriend. Will they be next? Turning into nomads, they seek shelter at a shooting gallery; a home for the forgotten and hopeless. It is where Miz meets her first real boyfriend, who tries to protect and keep her safe.
